North Market wrap up

Good times at the North Market in C-Bus. We just finished up our second day of the entirely too long to name festival but I will acronym it (even that's long) NMHOHACE...I told you. Some good people were selling this weekend like Alice at Vivisect, Casey at Carmacazzi (I am partial to other screenprinters!) Alissa at Creatrix Jane, and of course my buddies Jennifer and Sondra from Black Market and Adrien from Crafty Beavers making kitty hats all day...plus too many more to mention. It's like a reunion every time I do a show. I am thinking about doing the Artillery show at the Gateay/Arts in the Alley/Ohio Art League/Junctionview/every arts organization cluster place thing, so I will update soon. For now I am going to go try and rest...peace! Pics to come soon!

First Day down...

Ben, Barb, and I had a great day at the North Market today. Though we all had very little sleep (Ben and I had gigs, mine ended early but I went to Ben's gig at Park St. with the Floorwalkers and stayed till 2am and Barb is Ben's supportive girlfriend so she was at their gig till 3am with them) we had a good time overall!! I especially loved eating the food at North Market, a cinnamon roll from Omega and turkey mole with scalloped potatoes from Kitchen Little, one of the few places I had not tried yet at NM, man it was good. The crowd was awesome today and I sold a lot more than I expected, by the end of the day Barb, Ben, and I decided to switch up our space so tomorrow we will have a slightly re-designed space, I think it works a ton better. I am thinking about doing some give-aways tomorrow...like a raffle type thing, whatdya think? Come by and see if it happens! :)

Tomorrow, Saturday December 5th is the first day of the North Market Holiday Open House and Craft Extravaganza, and world record holder for longest name for a festival ever! the NMHOHACE ..even that is long. I will have NEW screen printed holiday/birthday/whatever cards for sale this year along with my usual graphic tees (NEW Snake tee prints hot off the press) and silkscreened and sewn wristbands. This year my good friends Ben and Barb will be joining me and selling some silk screened tees, totes, scarves, wallets, and more so it is gonna be a crowded booth but a great sale! The sale is TWO DAYS this year too so double the fun, see ya tomorrow from 8am-5pm and Sunday from Noon-5pm!

North Market Holiday

Hey guys, sorry long time no talk, I know I know..just been busy with the band and all that. So I got accepted into the North Market Holiday Open House and Craft Extravaganza (also known as the longest and most annoying name EVER fest..ha) so that will be Saturday December 5th 8am-5pm AND Sunday the 6th 12p-5pm, two days this year. Holiday themed food tastings, live music, artisans/crafter sale (where u can find ME) upstairs, and lots more to check out! This is a great event every year and I love participating in it. Like I said, vendors will be upstairs so make sure to check us out among the hustle and bustle. My good friends Ben and Barb will be helping out and selling some of their goods as well including some hand sewn wallets, silk-screened tees, some totes, and maybe more? We just ordered a bunch of American Apparel tees which I am excited about putting my snake design (most likely) on. That is it for now, see you soon!

Independent's Day wrap up

Great festival Columbus! I had a great time at this second annual festival and I think everyone else did too, we need more activity downtown like this, it felt so vibrant especially when the sun went down and we were in the alley with all the lights under peoples tents, it just transformed the city. Andy Shaw Band played a noon set, it was early but we rocked it out and then I ran over to my booth where my good friend Bree was helping me out selling, so I took over and had an overall good day. The crowd seemed to be moving very quickly, a lot of passer byes not as many sales as I would have wanted but that is the business of selling markets, in my experience it is always hit or miss, rarely am I surprised by these things anymore...so I keep going! The crowd was very energetic and people were just so happy to have this sort of thing going on, I heard comments such as: "is this every week?" "I didn't even know about this, this area is usually dead" and so on...now some of these people are correct and others have not been to the Pearl Market and seen other events going on recently BUT it was great and we do need more and more of that stuff it will keep our city alive. Sorry I am on a tangent now,,ha but these two guys from Mississippi came by my booth, loved my stuff bought a bunch of stuff (paid with a 100 dollar bill...I talked them into buying 30 bucks worth of stuff cuz only then I could break their bill) and they were like "this is really awesome, does this happen every week?" that was just cool to see people from out of town diggin it and it just shows that this sort of festival is really important not only to the local community but for Columbus as a destination. If these two guys were to come by Friday night there might have been nothing going on and they would have gone back home like, ok, whatever went to Columbus for work but no. They experienced a unique, vibrant, artistic expression of what Columbus is. Go Couchfire and go Columbus! Also thanks to Ginger, Bree, Melissa, Zoe, and Dad for helping babysit my booth so I could walk around and enjoy a little of the festival. I do not have pictures...I forgot my camera I might find some online though to show you how cool it was soon...

Independent's Day tomorrow! Saturday September 19th check it out here! Andy Shaw Band the band I play drums in (and my bro and dad play in as well) plays at noon, so get there early to rock out downtown with us, we plan to wake everybody's ass up that live in those condos...YEAH. Also I am vending of course so look for that, I hope to really get to look around this year because last year I was stuck at my booth the whole time..yay so excited this is one of the best festivals of C-Bus and its only two years old!

I had a great time selling for the first time in ...who knows how long but it has been a long time! It was nice to get out there and talk to the people again and show off some new stuff. Unfortunately NO one bought a snake shirt, though I did have some good looks at the new shirt (that I personally love...ha). I had a grea belgian waffle, met some new vendor friends, and even was able to use a tent from the North Market for free! Thanks so much North Market, and Casey from Carmacazzi for letting me grab his spot (awesome spot by the way right next to the front stairs). Other news, I got into Independent's Day 09 wooohee, I am excited about this event held right downtown in Columbus. This day is all about Independents (hence the kinda confusing July 4th title) it is the day for Independents (the adjective..not the noun..or wait...is it a noun? damn) and it celebrates the great individual spirit of Columbus by bringing all the hard working musicians, artists, crafters, bloggers, computer people, and creative class together for one big party. Consider it Comfest without as many hippies,,,but they are welcome too! The Andy Shaw Band also got in as a performing act so you will get a double dose of me. That means I will need some people to help out at my booth so let me know if ya want to. I will have pictures up as soon as I find my bro's camera from North Market. I am selling at North Market for Artisan Sundays THIS WEEK! I have no sold in a while and I am dusting off my tshirts (they are in plastic bins...easy people, don't get all worried) and re-organizing everything. I am going to print some new designs hopefully today so that should be cool, I do not have a ton of extra blank tees so that sucks and did not have time/money to order more. I will have some classics though and some wristbands you guys probably have never seen. I will also have my Ohio Pride wristbands, some new iterations of those. 9am-5pm Sunday September 6th at the North Market read more here I will be substituting for Carmacazzi.

I have been taking a hiatus for a while and am working slowly to get back into the Bootleg thing. It has been very busy with music so that is really great, but I do love making t-shirts and wristbands and like I said it's a slow climb but I am working back to it so I apologize for the lack of attention on the blog/etsy shop etc. That being said I have some new tee designs I really want to get out. Here is a preview of what I may do with my snake design, I really love it. It may be a different color shirt or ink but we will see. So far my next "gig" is September 6th Artisan Sundays I will be filling in for Carmacazzi so look for some new stuff then!

So it is a laid back summer, well it is actually really busy, but laid back for Bootleg and I plan on making tons of new stuff for this sale! woot..I gotta give my self an excuse to get back on the bandwagon! I have been doing tons of music (including going to Europe for a tour with Jonalee White) and it is great but I am beginning to get the design/craft bug again so I will start up soon making new wristbands and tees! Sometimes you get a little bit overwhelmed with everything, the last thing I want to do is burn out, especially on things that I really like doing. NEW WRISTBAND POSTED ON ETSY! WOOT. I got my new Mac too finally! I took pictures of it in its packaging, ha. I am a nerd for details and Apple neatly packages everything in this clear acetate stuff that is custom shaped to each product, I guess that is partly what I am paying for....oh wait I only paid 300 for this 1500 dollar machine, Apple you LOSE! Actually, they probably win somehow in the end...but I win this time too! YAY, I felt like I won the lottery, now I am just getting used to this flat keyboard, sweet design..not sure if I like it yet. Check out my Etsy page I will be updating it more now.

New Computer

Amidst the blizzard in Columbus (or normal winter..you may say) I am still here, quietly making some wristbands and awaiting my new computer. I am getting a new Mac...woot. My other one broke and was still on warranty and they said I could a brand new iMac, the $1200 model, for free or $1200 toward the next computer so I am getting a $1500 computer for 300 bucks! I probably told this story a million times but I just feel like I won the lottery, ha. So I am awaiting this new computer to post some new pics/items on etsy. It should be here by Thursday and I can get back to normal and not using this PC as often (I am such a Mac snob...) Alright, more to come!

By the way, BUY A WARRANTY ALWAYS! Apple could not fix my computer and now they are giving me a BRAND NEW FREE computer. Sweet sweet justice! I just hope they can get me all my information that was on my computer before it went in to the store, thats my only fear, they said they would try. I do have a bunch of stuff backed up on a hard drive but man it would suck to lose all that stuff. I am actually going to buy the next model up from the base model since the base model is 1199.00 and they will give me that much money toward the next model, so I am basically getting a 1500 dollar computer for 300 bucks! WOOT. That will be about a week they say so I will have my pretty new Mac and will be able to actually work from my real computer and post more. Thanks for being patient ..oh and GO OBAMA!

Hey, sorry I have been a bit MIA. My computer's monitor decided to go to black everytime I wanted to do anything. I called Apple, followed their troubleshooting steps and they worked....for 5 minutes..and then....BLACK! I could tell my computer was still on but it went black. So after taking it to Apple store and finding out I am still on warranty (PHEW! for like 100 more days) it is now being serviced at the Apple store. So I have been working on my brothers old pc and it sucks. It is very difficult to multi-task on this computer, I am just so used to the Mac interface and all its wonderful little indiosyncacys (speeling?) I just can't wait to get my computer back. God help me if I ever have to buy a pc...bleh. So needless to say my normal way of uploading photos, doing design work, etc., is very stunted due to not having my computer...technically I can still do some of the work like uploading photos but my computer will be back soon, you will all just have to wait! :)

Ok, so Bootleg news..I sold a shirt on my website, which has not been updated in like a year. I am currently working hard on updating it with my friend Andy Anaya. He originally designed my site (iheartbootleg.com) but we never really finished it. Now I am teaching him drum lessons in exchange for a website....no website...no more drum skills...atleast no more teaching from me that is. So I hope this arrangement will work better. Before it was more of a "I can pay you with beer" type of thing. So I have grand confidence in this new website, it will be a lot simpler and more blog-like. It will have a "look book" section where you can browse through photos of hot girls (I hope) and stylish guys wearing my clothes. It will most likely link to my etsy shop and the idea is to streamline everything into one hub. I am working right now on ordering some business cards that will be letterpressed (so sweet) and I am going to be designing some stickers as well (finally!) A lot to come in the year for Bootleg. Here are some goals of mine with the t-shirt and wristband (and what nots) company.

1. Get new website up asap
2. Learn more about screenprinting and get better at it.
3. New website launch party with live music, food, and t-shirts for sale
4. Put out awesome new designs.
5. Work on getting higher quality tees into the line. (the goal is to have more affordable shirts like 12-15 as well has higher end with more quality fabrics for a little bit more like 18-25)
6. Have fun, meet some people, spread the Bootleg word! woot.

Here are some pics from this past weekend. I got some fuzzy ones of the living nutcracker guy, I drove by the short north later that day and he was outside in the freezing cold standing next to utrecht..as stiff as a statue. That guy has talent..and big balls as well, ha. I was thinking about it, that guy can basically say he gets paid to do the robot, and of course stay really really still....pretty sweet, he must be a really good dancer too. Anyway, pictures...go.

Woo, the tornado weekend is over!

When I say tornado I am not talking about a giant twisting wind machine. Though my schedule this weekend DID feel much similar to the aforementioned weather catastrophe. at 7am Saturday I headed off to North Market to sell some goods, during this sale I played music with my brother at the market and had my good friends Borden (I will mention him in a bit) and Emily babysit my booth thanks guys! After North Market I headed to the much discussed (in Columbus because it is supposed to close due to budget cuts) Davis Theater to play drums *and violin* for Seussical the Musical (Next weekend is the last three times you will be able to see this adorable production) Then I went home for less than an hour to go eat and go to the Treehouse *used to be Andyman's and played with Matt Monta and the Hot Coal Band as well as opening for Matt with Andy and Chris Shaw Duo (I want to change the name to simply "the Shaw Brothers"). So I got home at like 4:30am and was up that entire time. I came home with some cash in my pockets so it was worth it.

OK so, THANKS to all who came out and supported me at North Market, I felt really good about the day overall. Borden actually got interviewed by the Palestra an online news source for college kids partly started by Joe Weasel from what I understand who at one point was an NBC sports reporter and owner of a funny name. GO BORDEN! I am actually really glad I did not get interviewed because I suck on camera, I think Borden did a great job and who better to ask about buying locally than Borden? Those of you who do not know him, just go meet him! He is a really smart guy and loves to talk your ear off about some cause, which I love by the way, it is always nice to know someone is thinking about (and acting on) various causes. I know I try my hardest to atleast KNOW about the world around me and try to help as much as I can. ANYway, thanks Borden and Emily for helping me out! Sorry, it has been a while. Life has been crazy here just getting things situated. I started teaching violin lessons (anyone, anyone?) and drum lessons as well and am getting used to all the new students and prepping for lessons and such. I really enjoy it. On top of that I am playing with Matt Monta (myspace.com/mattmonta) and it has been fun but taking up more time as well. He is a greeeat song writer so check us out December 6th at the Treehouse (formerly Andyman's) So Bootleg news?? I am working on a ton of new wristbands with lots of recycled fabric, hey the economy sucks so my fabric has got to be cheap! Also, it is environmentally sound! I got some cool new grey and blue striped ones made out of this super soft cotton shirt as well as some bright yellow and aqua wristbands, I might have pictures here soon. I also just burned a new screen with a ton of new designs on it so I am going to try and print some new shirts as well. I am not totally sure the screen burned very well the emulsion looks like it might start flaking off so I will try. Anyone have some screen filler? I need to buy some. Anyway, hope all is well out there see you at the North Market Craft Extravaganza Way Too Long of a Name festivities December 6th! 8am-5pm (and yes,,i am playing with Matt Monta AFTER that..its gonna be a fun...busy......horrible day) i am also playing Seussical the Musical at the Davis center that day ...oh man.

This artist takes thousands of pictures of a person and then creates a life size sculpture of them and covers it with those photos, really cool idea and it ends up being kinda creepy and very glossy. So I went to Wholly Craft today in Clintonville and gave Olivia some of my wristbands. Maybe she will be able to sell them. I had some I wasn't selling, but I think are really cool so maybe it will be the right market for them. I made some cool hang tags out of a box that once held guitar strings made by Elixir and I had some cool hemp string with them but since we did not have a way to attach them to a wristband (I need to get safety pins) Olivia just used her tagging gun..the little plastic tag thingys that are annoying to rip off of clothes. Anyway..too much info I know. So I transferred the money I made at the last North Market into my Bootleg bank account I have and now I have more money in there then my checking..which is cool but not cool at all at the same time. More money to buy t-shirts and shtuff, less money to eat with..ha, oh well atleast I am making some money! Oh yeah I got pics from Independent's Day.

I got together with my designer from a while ago and he helped get the site running again, but ilovebootleg.com had been snatched up by another company..and it's not even a real website, its just holding it incase anyone wants to buy it. So anyway, I am not buying it from them so I got a new one. Right now, it is the old website and technically you can buy stuff but some of the stuff is out dated so I would not really buy anything off of that site, I need to overhaul but this is the start of a new begining. Thanks to all who came out to North Market this past Sunday. I actually made some money and I met some cool people. Shout out to the guy in the Clippers hat, I believe your name was Drew..ehh sorry! But I know your friends name was Brittany. I appreciate the help with the store names! Also thanks to everyone who just shows an interest in my stuff, I love making t-shirts and wristbands and what not and it helps to have some support in terms of people saying "hey, this is cool stuff". I am getting ready to release some special silver ink Ohio Pride Wristbands with black pinstripe fabric and some with special sewn on labels, those are gonna be nice. More about those soon. My camera was not working so I did not get pictures but the day pretty much looked like the above picture (of the last North Market Sunday) More soon...

I was looking on the website and there are a ton of great people signed up. Check out the exhibitors's section. I am real pumped about this show, there are a ton of cool things going on and I wish I could be there the entire time. I am playing a gig that night in Hilliard but I will try and come back cuz there will be live music all night it seems like..or atleast pretty late at Skylab and the Vault...which is an old bank vault, I have seen it before but not really gotten to hang out there, sounds really cool. Vendor's, live music, food, creativity workshops, and more...awesome.

So another installment of North Market Artisan Sundays is now gone, thanks for all who came out, I appreciate the familiar faces and support. I want anyone who is reading this to come out to the next one on October 5th, it is the last one. I think this event is really cool and needs some more publicity and advertising. I don't think the North Market usually does as well on Sundays and this is a cool event to spark some business there and it is great for Columbus. The more things going on the more things go on..if that makes sense. If no one comes out then..it just continues to suck..not that C-Bus sucks..im just saying...the perpetuation of suck only allows for more sucking...? Ha, but seriously. So please support things like this, it seems to have done ok, but not really well, luckily for me it was not that expensive to do as a vendor but if I knew the sales would be like they are this year for the next year (if they even do it) I would not do it again.

That being said, I posted a new wristband on etsy and my display looked sweet in my mind! :) I came home and realized the Ohio wristbands I had on my display are not actually finished..ha. Only one of them was completed, so I will finish those and post some on Etsy. I am working on getting a web designer to overhaul my website, sorry it has been down..it really needs to be up again..grr, web design is evil. I appreciate all who signed my mailing list and I will be sending out some stuff soon to those people as well. If you want to be on it, post a comment on here I will be happy to add you. It's like a pioneer PORN shop in here! Ok, maybe more like a Japanese sweatshop....lots of wristband making going on in the Bootleg attic here. I got some more Ohio wristbands cuz they are just so in demand...ha. I have made some reversible ones so you can do blue and red or if that doesn't go with your outfit, yellow and red. Right now I am on a yellow, blue, green, brown, orange kind of run so a lost of the new wristbands have those colors in them and I think they are sweet. The other reason I am in that mode is because I try to use all my fabric up so the bands although different in style tend to be similar materials and color. Today I will be doing a bit different colors (I finally changed the thread in my machine). A new cub scout wristband is underway utilizing a cub scout scarf I found at the thrift store, at one time I had a slap bracelet with that logo and it was sold quickly. I am working on a new display for the wristbands as well, gonna be sweet. Here are some sneak peeks.

I found this cool site called Design by Humans. You can submit designs and if they pick yours you get money kinda like threadless. Looks like they have a new shirt every day, pretty sweet. I am going to be working hard this week to get some stuff done after my band is done in the studiO, we are working with Joe Viers and it sounds amazing so far. Ok, ok, it's been a while! Sorry, jeeze get off my back! The beach was fun (seems like a long time ago now) and not I am back in Ohio. I have been doing some freelance graphic design so it has taken up a lot of time, on top of that I am gigging a LOT with the acoustic duo (myspace.com/2shaws) so that is good. Funny, cuz I still don't have ANY money..oh well..life goes on. I can NOT wait till my ad agency paycheck. ANYway...I have been selling Ohio Pride wristbands a lot lately, they seem to be the talk of the town so if you do not have one, well get one! I plan on posting another on Etsy here soon and I will be at the North Market September 7th for another installment of Artisan Sundays...woo that is coming up soon. I am also working on getting a web designer (it is a LONG process..too long) and I think I actually have a few people that might want to ACTually do it! Da Beach

Off to Rehobeth Beach, Delaware tomorrow morning (Saturday). I am so excited to not have to do anything for a week...oh man. My life right now consists of playing a show almost every night with my brother or band which is great! I love it, but its tiring, especially when a lot of the shows you don't get a TON of people that are interested. It is really great though to get that one table at a restaurant that loves you. Today we had a couple buy two cds from us, they had just heard us for the first time today so it was so great they had faith in us. So anyway, no complaints that my job is playing music right now but it does get tiring like anything else. so BEACH! and Dogfish Brewery restaurant, and beach, and rented house with family and cooking and fun times, and beach, and hopefully Andy and I will get a long and write some songs together. Check out my moustache tee on etsy I just posted. I am going to try to update a bit more, someone bought my one of a kind train wristband. Actually it was the owner of shopshopdesigns, they have sweet graphic tees so check them out as well here. I really want to get the camera parts one (picture above). I gotta wait till my money flow is well..let's just say in existence. I lost two music jobs both at Claddagh, so that's unfortunate. My brother and I still play acoustic every Sunday at Polaris Claddagh if anyone is bored 8pm-11pm or so so thats cool. Just need to pick up some other jobs hopefully. Oh, I can not do the Urban Craft Fair in Detroit cuz I have a gig so that is a bummer. I will hopefully do Urban Scrawl when that comes around, they are having vendors this year and I missed it last year, so I'm excited for that. Also I hope to do Tiny Canary in November again, that was a blast. I really would love to do a show out of state as well, just to be able to travel, if anyone is interested in teaming up, let me know (other crafters that is...or I guess if you want to come and help me, sure!) Otherwise, I have not been making too many things, just trying to get my room organized and rearranged. Ever since I got a "big boy bed" my room has been set up really awkwardly so I got the energy to finally move stuff around AND vacuum which was REALLY necessary. My art table is now in the little cove where my old twin used to be, and my big bed is in the window recess which is awesome, I got some more of my art on the walls too which is great I will get pics up here maybe soon. Other than that, hope all is well in internet land...PEACE.

So apparently Tawd who makes cool t-shirts and was SUPPOSED to be collaborating on a hoodie with me a while back (Tawd! come on)..opened a hot dog stand! Here is a link to his blog. Wow, I might have to go get one today...hmmm, pretty cheap and sounds pretty yummy. I am not a vegetarian but I will try it definitely soon here. He works (worked) at Abercrombie for a while, he must have quit, good for you Tawd (if you did in fact quit). My old roommate worked there and basically described it as hell on earth on a daily basis. Ok, so Bootleg news, I am trying to decide on a craft fair to do out of Ohio. North Market Artisan Sunday 3rd installment went pretty well for Bootleg. I sold some wristbands which I am always happy about and of course some tees. I had some one of a kind American Apparel tees that seemed to be pretty popular amongst the youngin's. Those of you who missed out..missed out! I only printed them once...jeeze..But there will be more opportunities to get some one off prints I am sure! I debuted my Ohio Pride wristbands and I think they did pretty well, no sales of them yet,,but it will happen. I decided not to do the craft fair at Skully's...lots of drama in that! If you have not heard about it go here and read some of the threads..wow. I actually don't have a lot of inventory right now and am working building that up so that is another reason I opted out. I am excited for Tiny Canary way in November, I wish I could do Craftin' Outlaws at Boma but am playing a gig in Logan..or Nelsonville...one of those places. What else is new? Anybody out there?

It took a few weeks to get about 5 or 6 of these done, not the WHOLE five weeks of course, but I worked on them on and off. I am pretty proud of these. More color combos to come as well, the ones I have now are yellow with different color backing. I also have one blue one with a red print. I am super excited about these and you can get one at the North Market tomorrow noon-5pm for another installment of Artisan Sundays. I also made a few one of a kind tees so look for those. WOOT!

New Shtuff Happenin'

So I am documenting how I make one of my wristbands. These pictures show the beginning process. After scouring the thrift stores for sweet color combos and fabrics I found this great bright yellow and aqua color combo from two different women's shirts. I usually look in the women's section because the patterns and textures are often more interesting (in general, I think women's clothes are just more adventurous because women buy more than men...I wish guys clothes were as rapid in change because I get tired of plain t-shirts and shorts.) Anyway, so here are some pics of the original fabric cut up, not very exciting but it just shows the work I put into these. I am basically taking the shirt apart and getting as much fabric out of it as I can, therefore I am re-using and being as eco friendly as possible. Next I will screen print an Ohio graphic onto the fabric and then go to town sewing.

In other news, I finished another cardboard graffiti wristband. To get the image on this wristband I drew on cardboard with a big fat marker pen used a lot in graffiti. Then I took a picture of it, put it into the computer, manipulated it and just composed the graffiti a bit more interesting, I printed it out and made a screen out of it, then I printed the image on fabric and sewed the wristbands. PHEW! The work I put in! And these wristbands are $15 bucks! That is a lot of work for such a good price! You can find this wristband on my ETSY SHOP for 15 dollars (I already told you that!) And I will be selling at North Market in Columbus Ohio the first Sunday of July!

So the North Market show this passed Sunday was very slow, but the weather was great and I met some cool people. Thanks to everyone that DID come out, though they were few and far between, I don't know what it was...graduation parties, people just wanted to be at the park? You win some and you lose some I guess. Thanks to those who purchased Bootleg products, I am always trying to get something new out so it helps to have that monetary support.

In other news, I am always looking at Etsy and I am going to try to do some features on here periodically. So this is a shop called fiftyseven-thirtythree and it is really cool. Especially love the photos of the products, soo nice. The designs are great so check them out!

Other news, I might be applying for Craftin' Outlaws that is if I am not in Chilicothe area for the "Something Fantastic" festival my band is playing in...I think I will not be able to do Craftin' Outlaws which really sucks...we'll see.

So I want to upload some of these on Flickr so I don't have to upload all on the blog but I can not remember my Flickr account name or password, I tried the whole "email me my name" thing but it was like, we don't have an account under this email...could it be under my ancient hotmail account? ugh...why can't I just sign on to Flickr and it be signed on for eternity, it signs me on for like two weeks and then signs me off so if I don't check it within that time or something yeah...well boo Flickr. so North Market was fun times, next month will be better for me cuz I will be more prepared, sorry people I did not have a lot of new stuff. I met some new people and I hope that they had a good sale! So my car is pretty much broken, my awesome awesome friend Kyle tried desperately to diagnose it and he can not. My next option is to go to the shop but moneys is tight right now so it looks like the bus and begging Andy for his car are my options, and walking..oh wait I have a bike now too but I have to get it looked at (Abe my roommate gave it to me, thanks so much!) Angel (Abe's dog) is our new...thing we have to deal with at the house...ha. No, shes great but she has a tendency to follow everyone around, and by follow I mean she is literally touching you as you walk down the stairs she's so close. She also whines if you shut her out of the room, but for me I am lucky cuz I got the attic and I can't hear her (ha). She loves to lay in my bed while I am working on the computer, she is adorable I admit it. I printed new girl shirts...four of each size so far, I am going to test them out at North Market and see how they do. This is my first real attempt at multi color, I have done it before but this is a little different technique, I do not have a carousel. What I do is I have one color on one half of the screen and then you flip it over and the other color is on that side. I have a press that my brother and I made and it is for one color so I do all one color let it dry, and then go back and flip the screen around and do the second. The hard part is registration but I think I made some sweet looking shirts. They all look a bit different and though the design never really lined up perfectly I am happy with the results. My brother suggested lighting the screen from the bottom which we may try. Oh and I got a basil plant from Target for a buck. I got a sprout! I can't get blogger to get my photos up so I will soon...darn.

We talked, we laughed, we had muffins (thanks Dilara!), and I failed at getting the mic away from Amy, hah! I did get a little air time though, it's all good..gotta be agressive! We were on to plug the Columbus City Sampler and show the indie crafters some love. So the Dispatch put out an article, and I have a feeling since I told him I am the only guy at the Crafty Cotillion meetings (Tawd, seriously you are missing out) I was mentioned in the article! city sampler, moving, etc

So I have not blogged in a bit cuz I have been busy..jeeze. I just moved from north Clintonville to Hudson and Summit area (Tompkins actually). Fun times over here, a sweet house with 4 cool people. My brother Andy, Rafael, and Abraham...sounds like a Bible convention up in here...ha. Lots of moving and lifting and my body hurts..still have my computer desk to move so I am typing this on my bed, not comfortable..I'd rather be sleeping on it. I finally got a Floorwalkers cd..they finally had them at their show last Wednesday (if you have not seen or heard of them..please do..every Wednesday at Ruby's on Summit) I decided to buy one even though I probably could have copped one off Theo..they deserve it..so good, they are really going to be big and I can say I once knew them..I do not say that about bands either..I am serious about these guys, they have what it takes. Anyway, Columbus City Sampler is going to be out soon and my cards I designed look SWEET and the stickers and buttons Amy of Sweet Stella put together look fabuloso, nice work! I still gotta unpack...until next time!

Just talked to Kevin Joy at the Dispatch and there will be an article I believe on April 7th about the Columbus City Sampler...hopefully some awesome quotes from me will be in there. "Uhh.. I make stuff, it's cool..." ha! I applied to Charm City Craft Mafia's "Pile of Craft" event in Baltimore in June. I did this sale last year and it was a blast, so many cool people doing really great stuff in Baltimore I hope to get back out there again for this event! My sister lives in D.C. so its a great excuse to visit her and hopefully make some cash. My new niece is here from Africa as well, did I tell you guys that? Hanna was adopted by my sister and is Ethiopian, I look forward to meeting her...kind of weird, new member in the family I have not met yet. I am going to make some sweet wristbands with the "listen to the birds" print (found on tees on my etsy page) so look out for those, and some new shirts soon! check back soon for more!

So I did a craft fair at one point, maybe Tiny Canary or North Market..well I did both but I met a woman at one of them called Anita and she told me she was opening a sewing store soon. Well, the other day I drove by a little shopping center in Clintonville and saw the name "Sew to Speak" on the window, she finally had opened. And really it was not that long ago she had told me about it so not really finally....Anyway, I dropped in and it is a very nice store. Lots of GREAT fabrics (one of them pictured above which I purchased) a bunch of Amy Butler and similarly styled fabrics as well. Some cool books on sewing and t-shirt making as well and other little goodies people that "really sew" would probably appreciate more than me. Over all from an amateur sewer perspective it was really cool, brightly colored walls, simple displays, very inviting and Anita is very nice so go check it out!

So a lot has been going on, I will try to simplify it in list form.

1. "BLIZZARD OF '08" - I love local news, but hey this time they were right it did snow a whole heck of a lot and I was at my girlfriends just snowed in, it was a good time, no Bootleg action that day except maybe checking out craft blogs and searching etsy.
2. New Screens - I finally got my screen set up including two task lights equipped w/150 watt bulbs and I found a window downstairs from my landlord (shh) that works perfectly for keeping my transparencies flat on the screen while I burn the images to it. So new screens with sweet designs, woot let's hope they work out well, still working on my screen burning skills.
3. City Sampler - Designed a promo card for the Columbus City Sampler which is gonna be sweet. Also a sticker which is pictured above. I managed to somehow get my samples to Wholly Craft on time as well (pictures above) I did 10 wristbands so let's hope some people like my free hard work!
4. Lots of Music - I played last week at Monday at Ruby's (every monday) Wednesday practice, Thursday Claddagh Irish pub with my brother, Friday at Club Diversity on South High, Saturday at Rumba, thanks to all who came out they all were very good shows...man I am tired! Start it all over tomorrow at Ruby's! :)
5. Birthday - Oh yeah it was my birthday last Wednesday. My dad got this cake from the French Loaf in Grandview...if you have not had their cakes you literally have not lived. Got some much needed money and my drum throne I have been waiting for since December finally came in and my butt is very grateful.
6. New Niece - My sister just got back from Africa, yes Africa. My new 5 year old niece Hanna from Ethiopia is now in the states! Wow, crazy..I just realized too that my grandma is now a great grandma of a deaf Ethiopian, she is so cute I will have to post pictures soon.
7. New Wristbands - Above are some pics of these new wristbands I am working on. I had a bunch of strips of fabric from former wristband designs and just stuff I wasn't using and I decided to sew them all together and make some multi colored semi recycled wristbands. They are going to be sweet, most of my wristbands from now on (if not all) will be from all recycled materials.
8. Umm - Could anything else be going on? Oh yeah, working at Polaris (zpets bitches), having a girlfriend (which is great by the way!), trying to hang out with friends for once, catch up on the Daily Show, sleep?

I have had it on my list but it hadn't come true.
My simple task was only to make a screen for you.
The audience in my one man pursuit.
Making sweet graphic tees and wristbands to boot.
Finally inspiration kicked me in the head.
Not to write a song but to make a screen instead.
On to the screen green goo (emulsion) did pour.
And an hour or so later I had completed my chore.

Ha, wow..that was lame. Anyway after visiting Camp Chase (did you know Columbus has a Confederate soldier cemetery and former prisoner of war and Union soldier training camp?) yesterday and having an all around great day, I stayed in today and made a screen. My girlfriend Ginger has my camera from yesterday (we forgot to take pictures..but I have a feeling we will be back) so I took this one with my camera on my Apple which kinda sucks. New tees to come! WOOT!

A few
Bootleg land is busy. On top of the numerous hours watching mom and stroller after stroller, tween's groping each other, and Finding Nemo 20 times (it plays on the front of the kiosk at Polaris where I work part time) I have had time to sew some wristbands and make a trip to Kinko's to make lots of transparencies for my next set of graphic tees. Oh I am in a state of delight. Above are some wristbands in progress, my orange and green themed pieces. These are special because they are made from all recycled materials and each one uses parts of the same three pieces (also some additional fabrics may be added). A green skirt, an orange plaid scarf, and an orange toddler shirt. I like to think of the history each wristband has. Maybe the scarf I used was worn by a Russian immigrant who came to America seeking the American dream. The awesome green skirt could have been warn by some 16 year old who bought it at a thrift store (who knows where it could have been before?) because she wanted to be different. The orange toddler shirt that makes up the rest of the band was probably worn for a while and his mom decided "lil Georgie's just too big for this shirt" I say that because it was in very good condition when I bought it. So my new quest is to make all or atleast most of my wristbands out of recycled materials, I have been doing this a little bit but now I think I will do it 99% of the time. Oh, also the thread and sewing machine I have been using for everything belonged to my aunt who has passed away so I am recycling or continuing to use her stuff without it being thrown out somewhere or chucked into a closet somewhere never to be used. I think I am gonna make a screen today as well, busy busy busy..on top of all this my band is playing a ton. Saturday Feb 23rd at Oldfield's on High with Miss Molly and Stucco Jones. Sunday opening for NATIONAL TOURING ACT State Radio (the lead singer is of Dispatch fame) at the Basement which is right next to the LC under the House of Crave (gosh..all the venues are so corporate now) Hope everybody is well!

In case you were wondering, no this is not a new product of mine, I wish it was but it is not. I have been doing a lot a lot of online searching, blogging, posting, what notting, and have come across a ton of great stuff so I have decided to share some of my finds. This hoodie is by Pretty Raccoon Clothing and you can find their etsy shop HERE. On her etsy profile is says "It was started (with love) in January 2005 by Andrea Winkler as a part-time hobby, eventually growing into a full-time enterprise..." I have been playing a lot with my band and also doing a lot of design work for my upcoming t-shirt series as well as new wristbands, they are going to be sweet! Working on some Ohio Pride gear, you will see. I am playing at Claddagh Irish Pub on Front Street Wednesday night 7pm-10pm if you are bored!

Added this shirt to Etsy, it has been hanging around for a while and I decided I need to sell it. Eight bucks! Trying to get some press written so if anyone has any tips on that let me know. I am going to send some things into some magazines and what not. I also have decided to do about 10 to 15 wristbands for the Columbus Sampler, more about that soon. What else is going on? Constantly going at it really, making new stuff, about to order some cards from Columbus Hot Cards to promote, I will post that flyer on here too at some point, I gotta go practice with the band now. Every Monday at Ruby's (1978 Summit in Columbus Ohio..corner of 19th and Summit) 10pm I think they are letting 18 and up in now too but don't quote me on that.

Wow, I haven't blogged in almost 5 days. So I made some wristbands but I am still working on them, when I feel like it I will get some pics up. Vintage fabric (from skirts) pretty sweet looking. My latest endeavor is getting back into the sculpey realm. I used to play with sculpey a lot when I was little with my best friend Brian, his mom made the coolest little bunnies, she was really good at it. I am testing some stuff, I burnt some things yesterday :( and am experimenting with freezing and such. Not too many brilliant things yet, I made a cool finger necklace pendant that I burnt, damnit. I will have to ressurect that. I think I am going to do a line of scary/gore type jewelry, any suggestions? Eyeball earings, puss filled toe necklace pendants, hah..I am grossing myself out. The picture is a beer bottle pendant that also burnt, going to have to re-do that as well.

What is Gocco? Well, it is a little home printer made by the Japanese. It is kind of like screen printing except no squeegees are involved. Also, the printing area (on the model we used) is only about 4in x 6in. So you have an image on black and white paper, put it under the screen, press down over the screen with the flashbulbs (kinda like an old camera) and that light exposes the image onto the screen and then you have a stencil on that screen, then you put ink on the screen and press down again (with paper underneath) and you have a print. That is a simple explanation (or complicated with my scatterbrained-ness) but I think you get the idea. They stopped making Gocco printers in Japan even though the demand in America is really big right now, you can get them on ebay and what not but some people are trying to get the manufacturer to start making them again. Anyway, my friend Jessie B (sorry, the spelling of your last name is not coming to me right now) and I did a little Gocco printing with a design I did last night. It was kind of a test run and we are planning on collaborating on something in the future, for now, here are some pics of what we did. Also, Jessie heads up a little thing called Wild Goose Creative and they hold different events involving theater, cooking workshops, music, and everything under the sun really! What is the siginificance of this picture? Maybe I put it in the middle, or the end..you will have to read this blog, ha, I really got you now! I just found this which is the Columbus C-Note Art Show where each piece in the show will be $100. I am am pondering whether I should submit or not, are any of my pieces worth that much? A very interesting concept, I like it right off the bat. Something different (atleast in my brain) and it forces artists to really step it up, well that is my view atleast. A good show f0r Columbus to show people what we got. Lots of artists on there, which is great to see. If no one knows, Columbus Underground is a great site to find out what is going on in Columbus in general, I just found out about this C-Note thing. I think I am going to make a wristband or two today. I am trying to figure out what I should submit for the Columbus City Sampler...any ideas? Considering some more simply made wristbands maybe with my logo on them or illustration or both, maybe some sculpey items? I just bought some sculpey. Though I am sure I have some in a closet from when I was little (loooved sculpey) I decided to start fresh with hairless, dirtless sculpey. I am attempting to get my skills back from when I was little. Off to work, oh yeah that picture up there is just cool, no reason.

So I just posted (on my etsy page) a wristband that I made from a previous skirt I had bought. I made two so far out of it, and I think they are sweet. The one side is actually from a pair of pants, and the large houndstooth pattern is from a skirt. Buy it today! :) I just finished a bunch of photos today and will post more items very soon (including the pic above). Did ya see my train wristband, well you should. What else is new here? Anyone want to model some tees? I am wanting to get some better pics now that I figured out how to work my camera. Actually, my roomate Andy showed me how to use the manual option on my Canon Powershot A530 and it is working like a charm! Sweet. So I went through the menacing rain in search of something fine, something brilliant, something spectactular. I bought skirts. While the cashier may have furrowed her brow, or maybe snickered to herself, I paid no mind for these skirts were not for my Saturday night drag show but for fabric. FABRIC I say, what better fabric can you get for the price? The blue skirt is from Ann Taylor and is very nicely put together, I am about to cut it up, but it is still nice. I love blue and brown, it was a steal for 2 bucks. The green one was right next to an orange skirt and I regret not buying the orange one because the color combo was magnificent. I plan on making an orange and green wristband out of it. The picture sandwiched between the skirts is to remember the brownie camera screen. In order to make newer better shirts, I had to sacrifice this screen to make a new one, so let's have a moment of silence for that screen. there is another design on that screen as you can see on the right, that may come up in a shirt later, I have it on another screen as well. Getting rid of screens means that I (pretty much 100%) will never use the design again, making my shirts limited, once they are gone, they are gone. In some cases I may bring a design back if it is in high demand, but usually when I rip the screen out, it is finito! Collaborations with Tawd from Shiv (he also does Dirty Booty clothes for babies) are coming up (it MIGHT be a sweet hoodie..who knows?) Also, some Gocco printing with Jessie Beotcher (ehh spelling) next week, I am pumped about that. Not much other news besides looking for a new house to practice with the band in, working at Polaris, freelancing graphic design, gigging with the band and my brother (acoustic gigs), and on top of that attempting to be somewhat of a good boyfriend, ha. Well peace for now peoples.

X-mas, work, girlfriend, band, ahh. So X-Mas is here in two days and I am so close to being done with stuff. Not stressing because of mall crowds or long lines but just cuz we decided to do "one gift" for everyone this year. I always try to give a lot of thought to each gift and I usually end up doing like one thoughtful gift and two small things to kind of soften the blow if you will, hoping that something in that combo of things I give will hit a certain special spot. So I quote the words one gift cuz I think I am just going to do that like I always do, rather then try to kill myself getting something "perfect" cuz we all know there is no such thing as the perfect gift. I should be comfortable with that and just do one gift, but I think I might just do one really thougtful and one not so thoughtful, hah. Anyway I am now just venting. Lots of stuff going on. I met with Jessie Boettcher for lunch at Betty's (mmmm) the other day and we talked about her endeavors with Wild Goose Creative. They are looking in Clintonville to build a community arts center, and I am all about it! Check out the website for more info. I look forward to collaborating with Jessie and being more involved with Wild Goose because all I hear from her are things I want to be a part of! We are getting together to do some Gocco printing in January so I am excited about that! Well, I am sick, that's fun..not much there just that it sucks cuz I have three gigs this week (andyshawband.com check it) and my throat doesn't like it when I try to sing with the flem and nast. PHEW!! wow, long weekend but a great one. I can now afford to grocery shop, hah..but seriously I was hungry. CCAD Art Sale was great, thanks for all who came out and supported me and my Bootleg dreams! I got some sweet stuff too from other artists such as Andy Stattmiller His mom bought a shirt from me and told me about him and how he lives in California doing art. His sister was there selling her art and his so I bought a print on canvas of one of his illustrations, great stuff! Also, I met Jess Lacava I think at last years winter CCAD Art Sale and we always run into each other at these things and Floorwalkers shows. Anyway, she started making tees, and they are great! I was very impressed with her hand dyed American Apparel tees with the sweet original Ohio pride art..I will have a pic soon of the shirt I traded with her (she got a sign language tank from me) Now I think it is time to get some new designs out on new and better quality tees, maybe do some collaborations with other artists (let me know if you are interested), ship some orders out, work on my etsy shop, get some of my shirts in more boutiques, and get lots of other work done as well..sounds fun eh? Oh yeah, and I need a part time job, anyone want to hire me? I am good at things.

Ok so I said "new shits" in my previous post. Apparently no one reads this cuz SOMEone woulda caught that, hah. I meant SHIRTS...jeeze. I am leaving it there just for humor sake. I got pics from the North Market sale (not that many) and I am working on some new wristbands for tomorrow at CCAD (info to the right..or google it) Found some sweet houndstooth fabric on a skirt at a thrift store and am making some new wristbands with it, I love houndstooth....it's so "in" right now too, lucky for me. Hope to see y'all tomorrow, and I hope I have enough work to sell. North Market kinda cleaned me out, I do have a bunch new paintings and framed prints I hope to get ready as well. Oh and that last picture up there is from Clint Reno (bought it at North Market) Clint is badass and can be seen and heard over at GalaxyReno.
